Tai Chi
Tai Chi is an ancient art that originated in China. It is an effective exercise for health of body and mind. Our classes teach in the Sun style of Tai Chi which is known for its fluid, smooth, slow movements.
Tai Chi is appropriate for individuals not affected by arthritis and for individuals with mild to moderately impaired joint motion and/or strength. In the beginner class, you’ll learn 6 basic and 6 advanced moves. Advanced students will be challenged to learn additional moves as well as to practice them in reverse order. Please wear comfortable clothing and non-slip shoes.
Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program
The Arthritis Foundation Exercise Program (AFEP) is an exercise-based program that uses gentle activities to help increase joint flexibility and range of motion, help maintain muscle strength and increase overall stamina.
One hour classes, two times a week consist of sitting and standing exercises, including warm-up, endurance exercises and cool down. Done regularly, these exercises can result in significant health benefits without hurting your joints. Plus, you’ll have an opportunity to make new friends and enjoy lots of fun companionship.
AFEP is specifically recommended for people with arthritis, but we gladly welcome all interested adults. If you are not currently participating in a regular exercise program or have questions specific to your condition, please check with your doctor about the need for special precautions.
